Every October, as the world turns pink in solidarity for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Pankhudi Seva Samiti brings this global movement to the heart of India’s tribal communities through our Think Pink Campaign.
In regions where conversations about women’s health are often silenced by cultural taboos, we’ve taken a gentle, integrated approach—embedding breast cancer awareness into our regular skill-building and livelihood trainings. This method ensures that tribal women feel safe, respected, and empowered to learn about their bodies without discomfort or stigma.
💬 Breaking the Silence
For many tribal women, discussing health—especially anything related to their bodies—is considered taboo. We recognized that introducing breast health as a standalone topic could alienate or overwhelm. Instead, we gradually wove it into everyday conversations during our existing training sessions, allowing women to absorb vital information in a familiar and supportive setting.
🩺 What We Teach
Through interactive sessions and visual aids, we cover:
Early signs and symptoms of breast cancer
How to perform a simple self-examination for lumps
Understanding what is not normal—rashes, swelling, or persistent pain
Where and how to seek medical help without fear or shame
We were deeply moved to discover that many women had never heard of breast cancer—and in some cases, had dismissed symptoms as minor skin issues. This gap in awareness is exactly what Think Pink aims to close.
🌍 Expanding Our Reach
The Think Pink Campaign is not a one-time effort. Every October, we expand our outreach to new villages, ensuring more women gain access to life-saving knowledge. Each year, we build trust, foster open dialogue, and create a ripple effect of awareness that spreads from woman to woman, village to village.
